IISWC, Dehradun successfully organized a plantation drive cum outreach program in Khatar Village, Kalsi, Dehradun, engaging a total of 100 participants under the SCSP. The event was chaired by Dr. M. Madhu, Director of ICAR-IISWC. He interacted with the villagers, discussing their agriculture-related activities and issues, while highlighting future work plans with team members and villagers.
During the program, approximately 100 Guava and Bael plants were distributed to encourage the community's commitment to ensuring food and nutritional security, as well as environmental conservation in Khatar Village. By involving the community in the plantation activity, the aim was to enhance nutritional security, increase green cover, contribute to carbon sequestration, and create a healthier ecosystem. In the next phase of the program, the team also visited another village adopted under the TSP program in Damta, Dehradun. In Damta, the team, along with the Director of IISWC, discussed the village's work plan with the villagers and Gram Pradhan. The local people highlighted farming and marketing related issues. The third phase of the program involved a visit to an institute research project titled "Development and Rejuvenation of Natural Springs through Soil and Water Conservation Measures." During this visit, the Director monitored the progress of the project and discussed future work with the Principal Investigator (PI). Throughout the program, the SCSP team members (Dr. Anupam Barh, Dr. Deepak Singh, Dr. Devideen Yadav, Dr. Indu Rawat, and Dr. Trisha Roy) and the TSP team members (Dr. Sankar M., Dr. Ramanjeet Singh, Dr. Uday Mandal, Dr. Rama Pal, and Dr. Abhimanue Jhajharia) were present. The technical help for the programme was provided by Mr. Prakash (Technical officer) and Mr. Sonu (T-1).
