A field training on Soil and Water Conservation and Agriculture production was organized at the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC), Dehradun to undergraduate and postgraduate students organized for 12 days, at the IISWC Research Farm, Selakui concluded on 3.3.2023.
Dr. Charan Singh, Acting Director, IISWC provided insights on the SWC and NRM in sustaining agriculture production and livelihoods and the contribution of these sorts of training to the young professionals.
Dr Sudhagar, IFS, Associate Professor, IGNFA and special invitee Chief Guest briefed students and scholars by giving examples of his professional journey and the compromises needed in shaping life and career growth. While speaking on the importance of such training, he appreciated the students for their interests and curiosity in attending the training even without any compulsion.
Dr. M Muruganandam, Course Director of the training, earlier while welcoming the special invitee chief guest and participants, he briefed the course content, range of subjects, systems covered including SWC measures, sampling techniques, production-oriented entrepreneur avenues, and drone application field exposure designed to instill entrepreneurial skills and potentials.
Dr. M Sankar, OIC (Research Farm) spoke on the continuing of this field-level training in batches and overwhelming responses being received from the students and scholars. He informed that over 550 students have trained through this module so far.
Online feedback was collected, which revealed that about 95% appreciated the training program and its outcome. This was corroborated during the physical feedback given at the end of the program, wherein two of the participants shared their inspiration and innovative entrepreneurial idea that bloomed during the training received. Students express their fulfilling training and practical learning. All the participants received their certificates during the occasion. Also, active performers among the students were recognized with plant saplings during the occasion.
Sixty students and scholars from different local academic institutions and different states attended the training with full vigor and learning spirit. Sh Deshwal, Farm Superintend, Dr Pramod Lawate, Sr Technical Officer, Er U Tiwari, STO, Er Praksh, Sh Ravish, Sh Amit Kumar and other staff and technical officials attended the program.
