ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC), Research Centre, Koraput organized a workshop cum awareness program on “Climate Change Implications and Global Warming” on 07.01.2025 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC), Research Centre, Koraput, Odisha, India. About 50 participants including scientists, technical, research scholars, students and faculties from the forestry and agriculture department from Central University of Odisha, Koraput have participated.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Dr. P Raja, Principal Scientist & Organizing Secretary, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Dr. Ramajayam Devarajan, Head of the Centre and convenor of the program in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of climate change and food security for future generations through sustainable farming and responsible resource management to meet growing demands.
The workshop featured three insightful keynote presentations on the Remote sensing applications for atmospheric and climate change studies, a GHG perspective over the Indian region and Managing Soil Health and Monitoring CO2 Emissions for Sustainable Agriculture. These were delivered by Mahesh Pathakoti, Ph.D Scientist SF, Earth and Climate Sciences Area (ECSA), National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC)- ISRO Hyderabad; Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ATARI, Kolkata and Dr. Sudheer Kumar Annepu, Scientist, ICAR-IISWC, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam.
The workshop was organised under externally fundedproject titled “Study of Soil and Atmospheric Carbon Di Oxide Fluxes in the Mountainous Ecosystem of Western and Eastern Ghats with reference to the Climate Change Impact Assessment” funded by the NRSC-ISRO, Hyderabad.The workshop concluded with a plenary session and closing remarks.
