The ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun organized drawing and essay competitions and Swachhta pledge at Government Higher Secondary School, Smalata, of kalsi block of Dehradun under Swachh Bharat Mission programme on September 20, 2024 under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) of the institute. Under this full day programme, In the beginning of the programme, Dr. Raman Jeet Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) given the orientation on the importance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. Education kits, Swachhta kits were distributed to the students. In this programme, one essay competition for the students of 9-10th standards and one drawing competition for the students of 6-8th standards was organized on the topics of “Importance of Swachh Bharat Campaign in hilly villages of Himalaya”. Winners and participants of the competition were awarded by the suitable prizes. Dr Abimanyu Jhajhria, Scientist, Senior Scale (Agricultural Economics) addressed the students and emphasized the importance of the Day and also guided the students about the ICAR and encourage the students to opt the agriculture subject in the higher studies. Dr. Uday Mandal, Senior Scientist (Soil and Water Conservation Engineering) highlights about the mandates of the institute. Principal of the School, Shri Jagat Ram Dobhal motivated the students about competitions and thanks IISWC to organize the programme in their school. Dr. Rama Pal, Senior Scientist (Environment Science) trained students about solid waste management. Sh. Suresh Kumar, Chief Technical Officer talked about importance and methods of separation of solid wastes and its disposal mechanism. Sh. Rakesh Kumar, Chief Technical Officer talked about the TSP programmes for the welfare of farmers and students of tribal areas of India. About 100 participants including students, teachers, school staff, workers and officials of the IISWC attended the programme. Teachers namely Smt. Priti Gupta, Smt. Madhubala, Smt. Sapna Negi and another staff Sh. Dinesh Nautiyal and Sh. Mohit were also presented. Programme was ended by the vote of thanks by Dr. Abhimanyu Jhajria who was coordinator of the programme. The whole programme was organized under the active guidance of Dr. M. Muruganandam, TSP Coordinator (HQ), Dr. A.K. Singh, TSP and SCSP Coordinator of the institute, and Dr. M. Madhu, Director of the institute.
