ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu Organized a Kisan Gosthi cum field day programme on “Impact of Soil & Water Conservation Technologies on Farmer’s Income and Livelihood Status“ under SCSP on 01-03-2024 at Bendarawadi village, Gundlupet taluk, Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka. The programme was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp and welcome address to all. Briefing about the programme and SCSP activities taken up in the village was made by Dr. HC Hombegowda, Senior Scientist. Importance of soil and water conservation technologies suitable to the southern dry zone and its impact and benefits was discussed and elaborated by Dr. P Sundarambal, Principal Scientist. The different livelihood options for increase in farmer’s income and entrepreneurship development was explained by Dr. SM Vanitha, Senior Scientist. Importance of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices was explained by Dr. Sudheer K Annepu, Scientist. The importance of water harvesting structures and the impact of in-situ and ex-situ moisture conservation practices was discussed by Er. Blessy VA, Scientist. Around 65 farmers participated in the programme. Improved maize hybrid seeds, petrol operated power sprayers, pond lining sheets and solar fencing units were distributed to the SC beneficiaries. The technical sessions were followed by exhibition and display of improved soil and water conservation technologies, Farmer’s field visit and demonstration of trench cum bunding for soil erosion control and improved moisture conservation. Village leaders Mr. Doddaraju and Mr. Prakash were also present during the programme. The event ended by a formal vote of thanks.
