- Advancement of science and understanding of hydrological processes for sustainable land and water resources management.
- Innovative engineering solutions for design, construction, and maintenance of soil and water conservation structures and practicesunder changing climate.
- Monitoring and modeling of hydrological behavior of watersheds:Long term monitoring of six land use namely, Agriculture, Agri-horticulture, Araucaria forest, Pine forest, grass land and Horticulture, which is the true representation of North-Western Himalayan region is being monitored for soil and water loss since 2015.The data is being maintained.
Long-term monitoring of runoff and soil loss for different land use systems
- Springshed management: Springshed management treatments is being carried out in watershed having 1200 ha area. Horticulture and forest tree plantations, and staggered trenching has been completed.
- Development of potential soil erosionmap and intensity-duration-frequency curve ofIndia is under way. In view of the climate change, the existing maps and IDF curve need modification.
- Basic research on soil hydraulics under different land use systems in in progress.
Soil hydrological investigation using advanced infiltrometers (a) Hood Infiltrometer (b) Minidisk Infiltrometer - Design and development of location specific soil and water measures
- Development of rain water harvesting potential map of Indiafor enhancing water productivity
- Development of runoff monitoring device: A runoff monitoring device has been developed which can be used to measure stage of flow at pre-determined time interval. Using the value of stage in defined cross section channel, discharge can be estimated. The instrument give runoff with the accuracy of 3-5 mm. The measurement of discharge can be taken at an interval of 5 to 100 seconds or any desire time interval. The recorded data can be stored into the SD card of required duration.
- Developed and published Rainwater Harvesting Potential database of 15 States of India.
- Watershed scale model developed for spring recharge and impacts of climate and land use change scenarios
- A methodology for sustainable extraction of River Bed Materials (RBM) has been developed, which is being used by the State government for revenue generation, flood moderation and minimizing risk of stream bank erosion.
- Soil erodibility factor (K-factor) map of India has been development, which is useful for prediction of potential soil erosion at different locations.Product development: Topographical factor (LS-factor) map of India has been developed which will be utilized to estimate potential soil erosion in India.
- 04 watersheds have been treated for sustainable agriculture and livelihood improvements.
- Restoration of mined spoil area using bio-engineering measures:Mine spoil area of 64 ha was rejuvenated / restored. Soil loss reduced from 55 t/ha in case of untreated to 2-3 t/ha after restoration of the area.
- Software for design of grassed waterway, contour bund and farm ponds have been prepared and being used by the stakeholder.
- Development of stratification ratio of soil organic matter as soil quality indicator for Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP)of India. Conservation agriculture (CA) stratifies soil organic carbon and total nitrogen and helps enhance SOC sequestration and soil quality.
- Development of methodology for application of machine learning to link soil quality to rice productivity. The interpretable machine learning techniques could be used in long-term fertilizer experiments to unravel the most meaningful information, and also, the technique can be used in similar long-term experiments.
- Hydraulic conductivity characteristics under different tillage practices has been established. The temporal dynamics of soil hydraulic properties (SHPs) under different tillage regimes indicate that ZT can be a suitable tillage practice for reducing runoff and soil loss in monsoon maize and winter wheat cropping systems.
- Development and rejuvenation of natural springs through soil and water conservation measures.
- Enhancing Food and Water Security in Arid Region through Improved Understanding of Quantity, Quality and Management of Blue, Green and Grey Water (Externally funded Network project)
- Assessment of variability and trend of climatic parameters at various time scales in different regions of India
- Assessment of potential soil erosion of India
- Effects of conservation agriculture practices on soil pore system and hydraulic properties in north-western Himalayas
- Evaluation of conservation technologies under CBT.
- Consultancy regarding river training and rejuvenation of Water bodies.
- Training and demonstration on design, construction and maintenance of soil and water conservation structures
