Under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun successfully organized a plantation drive cum outreach program in Phatyou and Ichhala Villages of Kalsi block, Dehradun, engaging a total of 50 participants under the TSP. Team Leader Dr. Raman Jeet Singh, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) and Sh. Mudit Mishra, Technical Assistant interacted with the villagers, discussing their agriculture-related activities and issues, while highlighting future work plans with villagers.
During the program, 500 Kagzi lime plants were distributed to encourage the community's commitment to ensuring crop-diversification for doubling farmers income, food and nutritional security, as well as environmental conservation in the Villages. By involving the community in the plantation activity, the aim is to enhance nutritional security, increase green cover, contribute to carbon sequestration, and create a healthier ecosystem. In the next phase of the program, the team also monitored the already planted fruit plants and advisory was given to farmers regarding development of Agri-Horticulture system with adoption of soil and water conservation measures in the degraded lands of the Himalaya. Programme was organized under the active guidance of Dr. M. Madhu, Director of the institute.
