"World Environment Day” was celebrated at ICAR-IISWC, RC, Chandigarh on 5th June, 2023, by ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre, Chandigarh, in collaboration with SPACE (Society for promotion and Conservation of Environment), NGO, Chandigarh to sensitize the participants on conservation of environment and natural resources.Total 55 number of participants were present including students, staff members and faculty from SPACE NGO. Dr. Pankaj Panwar Principal Scientist (Forestry) started with welcome address and gave brief introduction regarding the World environment day along with a description of various activities and achievements of ICAR-IISWC, Chandigarh.
It was followed by a presentation by Dr. Pradeep Dogra, Head & Principal Scientist (Agriculture Economics) on “Ecosystem Services - A way to Sustainable Environment”. He briefly presented about ecosystem Services and their relationship with watershed management. Dr. Surinder Singh Grewal, Director of the SPACE, delivered a presentation on emerging water crisis and a number of works being conducted by the NGO for water conservation and environmental rehabilitation in the region. An open session was also organized where the participants exchanged their views on World environment day with special reference to soil and water conservation. Er. H.S. Lohan, Ex-Additional Director Agriculture, Government of Haryana shared his views in the event and proposed formal vote of thanks.
One day Awareness Campaign at village SCSP village Salga, Solan district, Himachal Pradesh
One day Awareness Campaign on " World Environment Day” was organized at SCSP village Salga, district Solan, Himachal Pradesh, to generate awareness among the villagers for the conservation and protection of environment.Total 25 number of participants including farmers, farm women and students actively participated in the event. The significance of world environment day was detailed by Dr.Sharmistha Pal, Senior Scientist (Soil Science). Different strategies for soil health management were discussed. Dr Manoj Kumar, Scientist (Ag. Engg.) explained various methods for water resource conservation in hilly region. The technologies for conversion of agricultural waste to wealth was discussed by Sh. Harish Sharma, ACTO. In the open discussion session, the farmers shared real life problems faced in relation to farming and best resolutions were suggested by the scientific and technical team.
