ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam organized one day training cum exposure visit on 17-08-2023 for the farmers from Veppanthattai, Veppur and Perambalur blocks of Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu. About 100 farmers participated in the programme. The programme began with the Welcome address by Mrs. V. A. Blessy, Scientist to the farmers and the officials from District watershed development agency, Perambalur. Dr. Somasundaram Jayaraman, PS & head of the centre briefed about the institute and centre activities and the importance of soil and water conservation in the context of land degradation and changing climate.
Dr. S. M. Vanitha, Senior Scientist, briefed about the importance of millets in resource conservation, potential benefits and impact of soil and water conservation technologies. Dr. Sudheer Kumar Annepu, Scientist, explained about different suitable cropping systems and good agricultural practices essential for climate resilience. Er. Murugesan, technical officer briefed about different ongoing projects at the centre and SWC technologies suitable for plains and hilly regions. All the farmers actively participated, visited the museum and the experimental sites and technology park at the research farm of the centre. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. SM Vanitha, Mrs. Blessy, Dr. Sudheer Annepu, Er. Murugesan and Mr. Sivalingam, IISWC, RC, Udhagamandalam.
