ICAR-IISWC, RC, Udhagamandalam organized demonstration of Agri-horti cropping system through distribution of 750 nos. of coconut seedlings and Jowar seeds on 14-07-2023. Farm tools like spade, pick-axe and crowbar for timely and useful agricultural operations were distributed to small, marginal farmers and landless agricultural labourers under SCSP village Passainapura of Gundlupet taluk, Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. The activity covered around 50 beneficiaries of the village representing both irrigated and rainfed farmers.
The climate resilient agricultural practices including best INM practices in Jowar, suitable SWC measures in coconut plantation to be adopted by the farmers were discussed for improving agricultural productivity and resource use efficiency. The Programme was organized and coordinated by Dr. S. M. Vanitha, Senior Scientist, IISWC, RC, Udhagamandalam. The beneficiaries were also briefed about the importance of crop diversification in conserving resources and increasing farmer’s income.
