In village Jhandhuta, District Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh a Training program on “Improving Livelihood security of marginal/landless women” was organized for Scheduled Cast women by ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre-Chandigarh. In the village many families are landless and meet their livelihood while working in other field or on daily wages. To create a low input livelihood option a training program on tailoring was organized for the women of Scheduled Cast families of Panchayat Jhandhuta on 6th September, 2024 in Panchayat Bhawan, Jhandhuta. Dr. Brij Lal Lakaria, Head of the Chandigarh centre highlighted the planning and efforts for distribution of the sewing machines to marginal/landless women in the adopted village. Elected representative of Jhandhuta Panchyat also graced the function. Dr. Pankaj Panwar co-ordinated the event and highlighted the importance of the training. Dr. O.P. Premi of the Centre was also present during the occasion. Dr. Panwar highlighted that the training would be provided for 30 days. The training would be helpful in saving the money while stitching the clothes of their family and can also earn money by stitching the clothes, bags and other items of the other farmer families of the village. Head of the centre and Pradhan and Up-pradhan also expressed on the training importance and mentioned that it should be continued to generate livelihood. During the occasion 19 sewing machines along with the accessorieswere distributed to the women of the Panchyat belonging to scheduled caste community.
