Trench-cum-bund technology for in-situ soil and water conservation was demonstrated and its benefits were explained to the farmers of the Umuri village of the Koraput block on 23.03.2024 under the DST-funded project entitled “STI-Hub Up-scaling sustainable technological solutions and replicable models for ensuring food and nutrition, livelihood and social security of Scheduled Tribes in selected Gram Panchayats of Koraput district, Odisha”. Trench-cum-bund work was carried out in 17 nos. of farmers field of Umuri and Pondi village covering an area of 15.4 ha. The technology has a potential to reduce runoff, harvest soil moisture, control soil erosion, which in turn will increase the productivity of the crops grown there. During the event, Dr. D. Ramajayam, Head, ICAR-IISWC, RC, Koraput, Dr. Saubhagya Kumar Samal, Dr. Saswat Kumar Kar, Scientists and Dr. Kartik Lenka, Scientist, MSSRF, Jeypore were present and interacted with beneficiary farmers regarding the technology.
