On October 9, 2024, a one-day field training cum demonstration program organized at Research Farm, ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Selaqui, Dehradun for 50 farmers, including women farmers from Khatar Panchayat, Kalsi, Dehradun, under the Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan program of the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun. The event was held in conjunction with the inauguration ceremony of the Remote Pilot Training Centre and Information and Sale Counter at Selaqui Farm. The farmers interacted with distinguished guests, including Dr. S. K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi; Dr. M. Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC; Dr. Mahendra Kumar Verma, Director of the Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Srinagar; as well as various esteemed scientific personalities, other officials, scientists and staff of the Institute. Dr M Muruganandam, Principal Scientist and Coordinator of SCSP/TSP at Headquarter, Dehradun along with the team members of SCSP scheme at Dehradun shared on the resources and farm facilities for the updated information of farmers.
The event was coordinated and organized by Dr. Anupam Barh, Dr. Trisha Roy, Dr. Deepak Singh, Dr. Sadikul Islam, and Dr. Devideen Yadav, under the guidance of Dr. M. Muruganandam (Coordinator of the SCSP, Dehradun) and with the support of Dr. Indu Rawat (Leader of the SCSP, Dehradun). During the training sessions, farmers received hands-on training on the use and operation of drones in agriculture, learning about the applications of drone technology to enhance agricultural practices. Additionally, they were informed about organic farming techniques, with an emphasis on the importance of sustainable practices. To assist the farmers in their agricultural production, a total of 125 kilograms of improved pea seeds were distributed, aimed at enhancing soil and water conservation and improving food and nutritional security in the region. This program is expected to be a significant step toward empowering farmers with modern agricultural techniques and promoting sustainable farming practices.
