ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC), Research Centre, Ooty organized valedictory programme of one month training on “Soil & Water Conservation and Watershed Management” on 04.09.2024. Total 10 nos (8 boys & 2 girls) B.Tech students from College of Agricultural Engineering, Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh (8 nos.) and Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Erode, Tamil Nadu (2 nos.) successfully completed one month in plant training from 05-08-2024 to 04-09-2024. One month In-plant training covered various topics such as SWC technologies, runoff & soil erosion, erosion control measures, INM, agroforestry, micro-irrigation, GIS & RS, impact assessment, climate change & its impact on NRM, watershed development, use of AI & drones in agriculture and many such theory & practical classes in the course. Dr. Somasundaram Jayaraman, Course Director & Head of the Centre addressed the students and briefed about the importance of soil erosion control and soil health improvement, need for creating awareness among farmers for adoption of SWC technologies and soil erosion control and also discussed different career opportunities in the field of soil and water conservation. The students got completion certificates and best performer in the one-month training programme. All the scientific, technical and project staff participated in the programme. The training programme was coordinated by Dr HC Hombegowda, Senior scientist and Dr SM Vanitha, Course coordinator & Senior scientist under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Somasundaram Jayaraman, Head & Course Director, ICAR-IISWC, Research Centre, Udhagamandalam.
